Melting away the differences...
When Gary Harmon stands before his audience, he is different from other speakers; he stands before them with no right hand, two fingers on his left, and prosthetic legs replacing his feet. Those differences melt away quickly as he begins to speak. He establishes that he is comfortable with himself, he is comfortable with letting the audience get accustomed to him, and he shows he has a sense of humor about his differences.
Audiences are surprised by the honesty and candor with which he tells his stories, and after a very brief period of time, they begin to understand that Gary isn't just explaining people with disabilities, he is showing audiences the human experience in a microcosm.
Mr. Harmon is a wonderful presenter; just engaging! Makes you want to learn and be a better person!
